The Prescott Valley Kinetic Sculpture Race Took Place on Sept. 17 as scheduled.
Prescott Valley's first ever Kinetic Sculpture Race began with 8 entries at the starting line. When it was all over, everyone in attendance were treated to a great show.
The first to cross the finish line was the "Purple People Eater" built by volunteers from the PV Parks and Rec Department.
Elliot Naess, a self-described "race fanatic" from Northern California, brought three entries to the race -- Pear County Chopper, which he piloted, and Henry Ford Goes Surfing piloted by the winners of a KPPV radio station contest, and the Silly Cycle, which crashed early on in the race.
Spectators got great views of the race as it circled the civic center, with entries overcoming obstacles and trying to outdo one another. Local citizens volunteering their time as judges included Arts and Culture Commissioners Dale Fitzner and Christine Scott; Helen Fritz, Marketing Director of The Daily Courier; Warren Parkes Executive Director of the Arizona Skyfest; Dave Newman, owner of Newman's Gallery; Mike Downer, Manager of Community Tire, and Eric Brummel, owner of Vigraha/Vaikuntha Galleries. Marnie Uhl, of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce presided as The Grand PooBah.
The Hot Chicks team shows how it won the Best Team Effort award.
